This is an exciting collaboration for the Sydney Mandolin Orchestra (SMO) as we present a program of classical, romantic and contemporary mandolin and guitar music at its finest, and combining with the tones and textures of brass instruments for the first time.

SMO’s precision plucking, shimmering tremolo, and strident strumming is sure to captivate you through an eclectic program of music from Europe, Asia and Australia, including Floral Arrangement by Sydney-based composer Dr Stephen Lalor.

Established in 1932, SMO is Australia’s longest running mandolin orchestra and is dedicated to growing and sharing the tradition of mandolin music in Sydney.  The 25-piece plucked string orchestra consists of mandolins, mandolas, mandocello, classical guitars, double bass and percussion, and is often joined by guest prerformers, ihis case, on brass instruments.  While similar in function to a bowed string orchestra, the plucked string technique of SMO never fails to surprise and delight audiences. With its distinctively delicate percussive sound, SMO spans the intimate and subtle sounds of a small ensemble to the expressive power of a larger orchestra.

No strangers to to compositions of Masataka Hori the members of SMO are trhilled to be joined by this Japanese mandolin maestro for his only Sydney performance on his November Australian tour
